There’s a lot that will feel familiar about Cop Secret – it’s a film that embraces all the traditions of low-budget Hollywood cop movies.
But there’s a couple of twists that make this film worth checking out – firstly, all of the action is set in Reykjavik, plus the two heroes are gay men.
When we think of films with Iceland, we don’t automatically think of bold action with car chases, lots of shooting, corny one-liners, and implausible plot-lines.
Written and directed by Hannes Þor Halldorsson, the film gives us the story of Bussi – a tough super-cop, in denial about his sexuality. Bussi unexpectedly falls for his new partner while investigating a string of bank robberies.
The cast includes Auðunn Blöndal, Egill Einarsson, Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir, and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson.
As well as being a filmmaker, Hannes Þor Halldorsson is also a professional footballer – he is one of Iceland’s most capped international players, having represented his country 77 times.
