Brasserie Ommegang : A Treasure of Belgian Gastronomy in the Heart of Brussels

Located in the very center of Brussels, just a stone’s throw from the Grand-Place, Brasserie Ommegang is a true institution for lovers of fine dining and craft beers. At the prestigious address of 4 rue de la Montagne, this brasserie is a must-visit for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the essence of Belgian cuisine, enhanced by an impressive selection of beers.

Culinary Delight and Warm Welcome

During my recent visit to Brasserie Ommegang, I was greeted with remarkable warmth and hospitality. From the moment I stepped inside, it was clear that this place does not rely solely on its prime location to attract tourists. The focus is on the quality of the dishes offered and the excellence of the service.

The service was impeccable, quick, and attentive, making me feel pampered throughout the meal. I opted for a complete menu consisting of a starter, a main course, and a dessert, and each dish was a delight.

For the starter, I had the Ommegang scampi, a generous specialty served with bread to fully enjoy the creamy sauce that accompanied the scampi. For the main course, I chose a salmon fillet, accompanied by seasonal vegetables, plain potatoes, and an exquisite béarnaise sauce that perfectly enhanced the flavor of the salmon. Finally, to crown this feast, I savored an Ommegang tiramisu, undoubtedly one of the best I have tasted in Brussels. Each dish was prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, demonstrating attention to every detail.

An Evocative Ambiance and Setting

Brasserie Ommegang also stands out for its enchanting setting and unique atmosphere. Inspired by the Ommegang, a famous historical reenactment in Brussels celebrating the entry of Charles V into Brussels in 1549, the interior decoration blends history and elegance. Golden coins bearing the effigy of Charles V adorn the entrance, while stilts hanging from the ceiling catch the visitors’ eyes. An imposing, colorful reproduction of a medieval portrait of Charles V adds a royal touch to the whole setting.

The central space is overlooked by a mezzanine where small groups can enjoy a more intimate setting, with comfortable seats made from converted beer barrels. In fine weather, the terrace offers an unobstructed view of the vibrant activity of the Grand-Place, allowing guests to enjoy the lively atmosphere of street artists and passersby.

A Varied and Rich Menu

The menu at Brasserie Ommegang is an ode to Belgian gastronomy. Among the must-tries are stoofvlees, a Flemish stew simmered in house beer, vol-au-vent, and, of course, crispy Belgian fries accompanied by a variety of homemade sauces. In addition to the classics, the brasserie offers a wide selection of meats, fish, and salads, catering to all gourmet desires.

Exceptional Beer Selection

Brasserie Ommegang is not only a temple of fine dining but also a paradise for beer lovers. With a menu featuring beers from Brasserie Haacht and other Belgian craft beers, each beverage is chosen to perfectly complement the dishes served. Whether you are a connoisseur or a curious novice, you will find the perfect beer to accompany every bite.

A Place of Conviviality and Music

The discreet musical ambiance that prevails daily at Brasserie Ommegang is enhanced on Friday and Saturday evenings by the inspired performances of a pianist, adding a touch of magic to the dining experience.

Brasserie Ommegang is a restaurant steeped in Belgian culture and gastronomy. Whether you are visiting Brussels or a resident, a visit to Brasserie Ommegang promises culinary delights and memorable moments.
