We had the chance to get behind the wheel of the Xpeng P7, a Chinese electric sedan that could easily be called an anti-Tesla. After our test drive of the Xpeng G9, we were curious to see what this P7 had to offer. Here is our detailed feedback on this car, which positions itself as a serious competitor in the premium electric sedan segment.
Dimensions and Exterior Design
The Xpeng P7 features imposing dimensions that place it between the Tesla Model 3 and the Model S. At 4.88 meters long, 1.90 meters wide, and 1.45 meters tall, it has an elegant and fluid presence on the road. Its design, while relatively understated, stands out with a futuristic lighting signature. The front LED strip, which changes color based on the charging speed, is one of the most striking features of this car. The recessed door handles, reminiscent of those on the Tesla Model 3, add a modern touch, as does the car’s sleek silhouette, which promotes aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of just 0.23.
The rear of the car is particularly noteworthy, with its clean lines and a slight curve that enhances its dynamism. The 19-inch wheels are perfect for balancing both performance and comfort. A positive first impression, which was confirmed throughout our test drive.
Interior Design and Ergonomics
Inside, Xpeng has opted for a minimalist design, reminiscent of many modern cars, including Tesla. The cabin features large smooth surfaces and a 14.96-inch central touchscreen that consolidates most of the controls. While the design is elegant and functional, the ergonomics can sometimes seem a bit complicated. Many functions, such as climate control and mirror adjustments, are accessible only via the touchscreen. Though this might be a little confusing at first, you quickly get used to it. Additionally, the central screen is perfectly integrated, and the build quality of the materials used in the cabin is undeniable.
The dashboard is clean, with a clear 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The seats are comfortable and well-adjusted, offering good support, but the rear bench lacks space for taller passengers. On the other hand, the front seats are spacious and comfortable, with practical storage options for personal items. The 440-liter trunk is also large enough for a sedan of this size, although it lacks a double floor to maximize space.
Different Powertrains
The Xpeng P7 comes in two versions in Belgium: the RWD Long Range version and the AWD Performance version. The RWD version is powered by a 276-horsepower motor, while the AWD Performance version offers 473 horsepower, thanks to an additional motor on the front wheels. The power difference between the two versions is noticeable, with the AWD Performance version particularly impressive, reaching 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. In terms of range, the RWD version reaches around 576 km, while the AWD version can cover 505 km on a single charge. In practice, this offers more than enough range for most trips.
Driving Experience
Driving the Xpeng P7 is a true surprise. The car’s dynamic behavior is enjoyable, and while it may not compete with pure sports sedans, it offers a smooth and comfortable ride. We particularly appreciated the light steering and the suspension that prioritizes comfort, even though it can lack a bit of firmness in tight corners. The car stands out for its quiet operation, thanks to the high-quality sound insulation, creating a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere inside.
The Xpeng P7 can be driven in “one-pedal” mode, thanks to its powerful regenerative braking system. Although there can be a slight delay when accelerating, this is not a significant drawback, and you quickly get used to it. Regarding the driving assistance system, the XPilot is effective under normal conditions, although it can sometimes lose some responsiveness in sharper corners.
Comparison with the Competition
The Xpeng P7 positions itself as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3, but it stands out in terms of pricing and features. Compared to Tesla, it offers a more refined finish and superior comfort, although the driving experience may not be as sporty as the Model 3 Performance. When compared to models like the BMW i4 or the Mercedes EQE, the P7 remains highly competitive in terms of value for money, offering an experience close to that of premium brands at a more affordable price.
Price in Belgium
The Xpeng P7 is offered in Belgium starting at €49,990 for the RWD Long Range version, and €59,990 for the AWD Performance version. While this price is relatively high compared to some Chinese electric cars, it remains competitive against European and American models in the same segment. For those looking for more, there is also a “Wing Edition” version with butterfly doors and additional features, starting at €69,990.
Conclusion: The Pros and Cons

In summary, the Xpeng P7 is a car that truly impressed us. It combines performance, comfort, and technology in a well-designed package, while still being accessible in terms of pricing. It’s a car that we had a hard time parting with after a week behind the wheel, and it definitely deserves consideration by anyone seeking a serious alternative to other premium electric sedans.
