Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Alpine A290 : Crowned “Car of the Year 2025”

A double triumph for the group: following Scenic E-Tech electric’s 2024 victory, Renault has once again clinched the prestigious “The Car of the Year” award at the Brussels Motor Show, while Alpine celebrates a historic first. Both city cars, built on the same AmpR Small platform, stand out for their design, enjoyable handling, and cutting-edge technology.

This accolade, announced on January 10 at the Brussels Motor Show, highlights the effectiveness of Renault’s and Alpine’s electrification strategies as well as their ability to make electric vehicles both desirable and accessible. Produced in France at the ElectriCity facility, the new Renault 5 E-Tech electric is set to energize the market this year with a starting price of €25,000. Meanwhile, the A290, Alpine’s first 100% electric model, rekindles the spirit of “hot hatches” and marks a new sporting era for the storied French brand.

Both models benefit from meticulous engineering, drawing on Renault’s and Alpine’s expertise in chassis and powertrain development. The result is a driving experience that is simultaneously comfortable, dynamic, and environmentally friendly. This synergy sets a compelling example of the group’s pursuit of ever more innovative and responsible mobility.
