BRAFA 2025 : The Must-Attend Art Event Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary

BRAFA (Brussels Art Fair) is gearing up to celebrate its 70th edition from January 26 to February 2, 2025, at Brussels Expo. First launched in 1956 as the “Foire des Antiquaires,” this event has evolved continuously to become a leading fixture in the art market. On the agenda: quality, eclecticism, and conviviality, all coming together to offer a unique experience for collectors, professionals, and art enthusiasts.

An Anniversary Embracing Diversity

For this special edition, around 130 galleries from 16 countries will gather to showcase treasures ranging from Old Masters to contemporary design. The list of new exhibitors—carefully selected by the Board of Directors—reflects a commitment to covering an extensive range of artistic fields. Among the notable newcomers are the prestigious COLNAGHI gallery (London, New York, Madrid, Brussels), a renowned name in Old Masters, and the Paris-based TEMPLON gallery, a major player on the international contemporary scene.

Joana Vasconcelos, Guest of Honor

The Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, celebrated for her monumental installations and her creative reinterpretation of everyday objects, will be the guest of honor. Among other pieces, she will unveil two large-scale textile sculptures inspired by Norse mythology—“Valkyries”—which skillfully merge traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.

Spotlight on Belgian Institutions and Heritage

BRAFA 2025 will also highlight key cultural partners. The KIK-IRPA (Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage) will present its restoration and art-analysis work through demonstrations and daily workshops. The King Baudouin Foundation will exhibit remarkable pieces from its collection—such as a rare floral still life by Judith Leyster and an Art Deco sculpture by Marcel Wolfers—showcasing the richness of Belgian heritage. Meanwhile, Delen Private Bank renews its longstanding partnership by offering a thoughtfully designed stand for visitors.

Art Talks and Special Highlights

As in previous years, daily Art Talks will provide free lectures and conversations with museum curators, art historians, gallerists, and market experts. Among the topics discussed: the role of women artists, famous restoration projects, and the impact of new technologies on the contemporary art scene.
