Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor: Scandinavian elegance at full power

The Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor, the electric SUV coupé everyone’s been talking about. After the more sensible Polestar 2 and the larger, more imposing Polestar 3, the Swedish brand born from Volvo and Geely continues to carve out its own path. And after living with the Polestar 4 for a week, we quickly realized it’s far more than a tech showcase—it’s a distinctive experience, blending Nordic calm with confident performance.

A design that leaves no one indifferent

It’s impossible to ignore the silhouette of the Polestar 4. At 4.84 meters long and 2 meters wide, it has real presence without being ostentatious. The lines are clean and fluid, sculpted by the wind. You feel the Scandinavian restraint, but with a bold twist—most notably, the total absence of a rear window. Instead, a vast panoramic glass roof stretches all the way to the rear headrests, bathing the cabin in light and creating a sense of openness.

The signature front lights echo Volvo’s famous “Thor’s Hammer” design, while flush door handles reinforce the sleek profile. Even after a week, we found ourselves stopping to admire it. This mix of daring and discipline gives the Polestar 4 its own personality—more assertive and futuristic than its siblings.

Inside: a cocoon of calm and smart technology

The moment you step inside, Polestar’s “intelligent minimalism” philosophy makes sense. The cabin feels coherent, uncluttered, and serene. Materials are sustainable yet refined—recycled fabrics, aluminum accents, and optional Nappa leather. Everything is there for a reason, with nothing superfluous.

Space is generous, especially in the rear where passengers enjoy near-lounge comfort. The panoramic glass roof amplifies the light, while reclining seats make long trips genuinely relaxing. Up front, the 15.4-inch central touchscreen houses almost all the controls and runs on Android Automotive. It’s fast, intuitive, and seamlessly integrates Google Maps, Spotify, and voice commands. We occasionally missed a few physical buttons, but overall, the experience feels natural and modern.

Add the Harman Kardon sound system, and the cabin becomes a sanctuary. The sound is rich and enveloping—but honestly, we often preferred to turn the music off just to enjoy the near-total silence.

Two motors, one philosophy: balance and control

Underneath its sculpted body, the Long Range Dual Motor hides two electric motors delivering a combined 544 hp and 686 Nm of torque. On paper, that’s impressive; on the road, it’s even better—because it’s so smooth. The 0–100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds is brutal in theory, yet in practice, it feels perfectly controlled, with power delivered seamlessly.

The all-wheel-drive system ensures impeccable traction even in the wet. Yes, you can feel the car’s weight (a little over 2.2 tons), but the low center of gravity keeps everything stable. The steering is sharp, the chassis precise, and the suspension strikes a superb balance between comfort and agility. Even with 21-inch wheels, the ride remains composed and quiet.

And that famous rear camera instead of a mirror? Once you get used to it, you wouldn’t want to go back. The image is crisp, wide, and surprisingly natural—even at night.

Driving: calm, composed, and captivating

Over the week, what impressed us most was how effortlessly the Polestar 4 fits into daily life. In the city, it glides smoothly. On the highway, it settles into a tranquil rhythm. Switch to “Performance” mode, though, and it comes alive—responsive, eager, and composed.

The adaptive dampers (optional) allow you to tailor the ride to your mood: supple for daily cruising, firm for spirited driving. Through winding roads, it stays flat and confidence-inspiring. It’s not a hardcore sports car, but a grand tourer at heart—powerful, silent, and engaging in equal measure.

Our average energy consumption over the week was around 21 kWh/100 km, which is impressive for such a powerful SUV. Real-world range hovered between 400 and 450 km depending on pace and conditions—more than enough for both city commutes and long journeys.

Verdict: emotion meets serenity

After a week, parting ways with the Polestar 4 felt bittersweet. It doesn’t shout for attention—it earns it. Every detail seems deliberate, understated, and honest. It doesn’t try to mimic Tesla or Volvo; it defines its own identity.

Pros:

  • Bold, cohesive design that stands out

  • Noticeably improved build quality

  • Outstanding comfort and near-silent ride

  • Powerful yet refined performance

  • Well-integrated, intuitive tech

Cons:

  • Lack of physical buttons may frustrate some

  • Weight is noticeable on tight, twisty roads

  • The rear-camera mirror takes some getting used to

Ultimately, the Polestar 4 Long Range Dual Motor is a coupé-SUV that redefines modern luxury: silent strength wrapped in minimalist elegance. It’s the kind of car that makes you want to take the long way home—just to savor the quiet power and the effortless Scandinavian cool that define it.
