We were pleasantly surprised by the Leapmotor C10 electric SUV. So it made perfect sense to take a closer look at its little sibling: the Leapmotor T03. Touted as the most affordable electric car on the market, we wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. Beyond the specs and the price tag, it was really about the experience and the emotions behind the wheel.
Compact and discreet: urban design fully embraced
The Leapmotor T03 doesn’t try to grab attention. With its 3.62 meters in length, 1.65 meters in height, and 1.58 meters in width, it fully embraces its urban purpose: above all, it’s practical and easy to handle. The design subtly nods to some European influences, especially the Smart Forfour. While not groundbreaking, its simple and efficient silhouette is perfect for city life, ensuring easy maneuvers in tight streets and hassle-free parking.
A simple but comfortable interior
Inside, you’re greeted by a minimalist yet effective environment. Sure, there’s a lot of hard plastic, but the standard panoramic roof brings in a welcome brightness, lifting the overall ambiance. The seats aren’t luxurious but provide adequate comfort—just right for daily city commuting. The Leapmotor T03 doesn’t try to compete with premium models in finish, but it makes up for it with smart ergonomics: generous storage and a clear, user-friendly touchscreen make everyday driving simpler.
One motor, many possibilities
Under the hood, there’s just one option: a 95-horsepower electric motor with 158 Nm of torque. While modest on paper, it delivers satisfying acceleration in the city, thanks in part to the car’s light weight. The 130 km/h top speed quickly shows its limits on highways, but that’s clearly not this EV’s natural habitat. Three drive modes (Eco, Standard, Sport) offer some variety, though we found the standard mode to be the best balance for everyday use.
Behind the wheel: joy with minor flaws
Once you hit the city streets, the Leapmotor T03’s agility shines. It’s nimble and responsive, with a super-tight turning radius of 9.70 meters—ideal for quick U-turns. But it’s not all perfect. Sound insulation is average, letting in more city noise than we’d like, and the constant beeping from electronic aids can be tiresome. As for comfort, the firm suspension handles corners well but gets bumpy on rougher roads. Still, the driving pleasure remains intact in an urban setting, which is exactly where the T03 performs best.
Competitive pricing in Belgium
Available in Belgium starting from €18,900, the Leapmotor T03 makes a strong case for itself on price. It’s positioned smartly against its closest rival, the Dacia Spring, offering a richer standard equipment package. That attractive pricing could easily win over first-time EV buyers looking for value without compromise.
