GALLERIA CONTINUA presents “Kaleidoscopes – Cuba: Contemporary Perspectives,” a mesmerizing group exhibition at its Les Moulins venue in Ile-de-France, running from June 23 to October 20, 2024. Curated by Laura Salas Redondo and Niurma Pérez Zerpas, this ambitious showcase spans 7,000 square meters, featuring 25 artists who collectively encapsulate the dynamism and creativity of the Cuban art scene.
The exhibition’s title, “Kaleidoscopes,” evokes the concept of shifting perspectives and fragmented beauty, mirroring the diverse expressions found in contemporary Cuban art. This artistic mosaic draws inspiration from Julio Cortázar’s novel “Hopscotch,” inviting viewers to navigate multiple paths and interpretations, enriching their engagement with the art.
Among the featured artists, Juan Carlos Alom’s evocative photography captures the vibrancy of Afro-Cuban culture and diasporic themes, while Waldo Balart’s geometric abstractions stand as a testament to his mastery in concrete art. Alejandro Campins’ emotionally charged landscapes challenge perceptions of space and time, and Iván Capote’s layered works delve into political and social phenomena.
Notable contributions also come from Yoan Capote, whose paintings explore psychological states, and Elizabet Cerviño, whose installations reflect on the ephemeral nature of existence. Michelangelo Pistoletto, an honorary participant, enriches the exhibition with his “Mirror Paintings,” bridging Cuban artistic traditions with broader utopian themes.
The exhibition’s structure, reflecting Cortázar’s literary innovation, encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the varied narratives and perspectives of Cuban art. This celebration of artistic diversity highlights the power of contemporary art to transcend boundaries, fostering a deep connection between the past, present, and future of Cuban culture.
“Kaleidoscopes” not only showcases the richness of Cuban art but also underscores GALLERIA CONTINUA’s dedication to promoting cultural dialogue and artistic innovation worldwide. The exhibition promises to be a landmark event, offering a unique lens through which to view the multifaceted and evolving nature of contemporary Cuban art.
