Barolo According to Saffirio: A Return to Essence

Barolo According to Saffirio: A Return to Essence

There are places that don’t just welcome you — they draw you in. In the rolling hills of Monforte d’Alba, Saffirio offers more than just Barolo. It offers a philosophy — of patience, presence, and profound pleasure.

Part of Brave Wine, the wine holding company founded by Diesel’s Renzo Rosso, Saffirio redefines wine tourism with intention and elegance. Here, Barolo isn’t a label — it’s a lived experience. Rooted in over two centuries of tradition, this family-run estate invites guests to discover what happens when wine is treated not as a product, but as a story that spans generations.

At the heart of their offer is the Gold Wine Experience, a rare vertical tasting of five Barolo vintages from 1978 to 2020, drawn from Saffirio’s historical reserves. But before a single drop is poured, visitors are guided through the vineyards and the cellar — a quiet lesson in craftsmanship, where every harvest tells of soil, light, and time. It’s wine, but also witness.

For those wanting a broader view, the Barolo Experience dives deeper into the soul of the estate. It traces the journey of the Saffirio family through a tasting of four single-vineyard Barolos — Castelletto Persiera, Ravera, Perno — crowned by the iconic Barolo Riserva Millenovecento48. Local charcuterie and cheeses elevate the ritual into something sensual and complete.

And then there’s the Pic Nic in the Vineyards, offered from April to October. After a tasting and cellar tour, guests receive a curated lunch box, a bottle of Barbera d’Alba Superiore, and a corkscrew stamped with the Saffirio logo. From there, they’re free to roam — to find a patch of silence under the Langhe sky, and savour it slowly.

A newly designed tasting room, added thanks to investments from Brave Wine, now hosts private and corporate events with refined, bespoke service — a seamless blend of sophistication and soul.

In a world where “experience” is often diluted by cliché, Saffirio gives the word its weight back. This is Barolo as it was meant to be felt: precise, powerful, and patient. A dialogue between land and life — sip by sip, season by season.
