Peugeot E-3008 : Heavy but aesthetically pleasing

This highly anticipated model from the Lion brand was expected to mark a turning point in the electrification of Peugeot’s lineup. But the question is: does the Peugeot E-3008 live up to expectations, especially in the face of fierce competition in the electric SUV market? Here’s our in-depth analysis after driving several hundred kilometers.

A Modern and Assertive Exterior Design

The Peugeot E-3008 immediately stands out with its exterior design, which leaves no one indifferent. With generous dimensions (4.54 meters long and 1.895 meters wide), the E-3008 boasts a dynamic and sleek silhouette. The “fastback” design, which combines coupe and SUV elements, gives the vehicle a sporty appearance while maintaining a robust presence. The front end is distinguished by the new grille integrated into the bumper, framed by Peugeot’s iconic claw-shaped lights. The slimmed-down headlights further emphasize this modern and aggressive look. At the rear, the reduced rear window and vertical lines enhance the vehicle’s stature, giving it a more compact and muscular appearance.

A Futuristic Interior with Some Compromises

The interior of the Peugeot E-3008 is a true showcase of the brand’s expertise in interior design. The new Panoramic i-Cockpit immediately catches the eye. This floating 53 cm diagonal screen, combining a digital dashboard and infotainment system, is one of the major innovations of this model. Below it, a customizable touchpad provides quick access to the vehicle’s main functions. The overall design is harmonious and reinforces the impression of driving a car from the future.

However, we did note some drawbacks in terms of ergonomics. The placement of the controls, particularly the gear lever positioned just to the right of the steering wheel, is not the most intuitive. Additionally, some functions, like adjusting the climate control, require exiting the current menu, which can quickly become frustrating while driving.

Powertrains : Versatility and Power

The Peugeot E-3008 is available in three powertrain options, catering to different needs. The entry-level version offers 210 hp (155 kW), ideal for everyday urban use. The mid-range version, with 230 hp (170 kW), provides better range and more dynamic performance. Finally, the most powerful version, equipped with 320 hp (235 kW) and all-wheel drive, delivers driving sensations comparable to those found in premium models like the Tesla Model Y.

Each powertrain is paired with a high-performance battery that ensures a range of up to 527 km in mixed driving conditions. During our tests, we found that the E-3008 lived up to its range promises, although this naturally varies depending on driving conditions.

Driving Experience : Comfort and Agility

On the road, the Peugeot E-3008 proves to be up to the task. Despite its considerable weight of over two tons, the vehicle is agile and easy to maneuver, thanks in part to a tight turning radius. The different driving modes allow for adapting the vehicle’s behavior to various situations, whether prioritizing energy efficiency or fully enjoying the power of the motor. We particularly appreciated the regenerative braking, which, while not offering a “One Pedal” mode, is powerful enough for everyday use.

However, we noticed that acceleration performance is not the fastest in its segment. While the E-3008 performs well in urban and national road settings, it falls short when it comes to high-speed overtaking. This design choice favors comfort and stability over liveliness.

Comparison with Competitors : A Lion with Yet-to-Be-Sharpened Claws

When compared to models like the Tesla Model Y or the Skoda Enyaq, the Peugeot E-3008 positions itself as a serious contender but not necessarily a game-changer. While its bold exterior design and innovative interior will undoubtedly appeal, its driving performance and range, although respectable, do not surpass those of the segment leaders. For example, the Tesla Model Y remains more powerful in terms of raw power, and the Skoda Enyaq offers more generous interior space.

Pricing in Belgium : A Strategic Positioning

In Belgium, the Peugeot E-3008 is priced from 44,990 euros for the Allure version, while the GT version is priced at 46,990 euros. This price positioning, although in line with the segment, may seem high considering the offered features. However, it remains competitive against direct rivals, especially when taking into account the standard equipment level and the exclusivity of the design.

Conclusion : The Pros and Cons

In conclusion, the Peugeot E-3008 is an electric SUV that impresses with its design and driving comfort. Its futuristic interior, while not without ergonomic flaws, is a real asset. However, its on-road performance and comparison with competitors reveal some weaknesses, particularly in terms of responsiveness and range on long journeys.

Pros:

  • Bold and modern exterior design
  • High-tech interior with the Panoramic i-Cockpit
  • Comfortable driving experience and good maneuverability

Cons:

  • Underwhelming acceleration and overtaking performance
  • Some interior ergonomic shortcomings
  • Price positioning slightly high compared to the competition

In summary, the Peugeot E-3008 is a solid choice for those looking for a stylish and comfortable electric SUV, but it will need to convince demanding buyers in the face of increasingly fierce competition.
