From Beats to Books: Fuse’s 30-Year History

For three decades, Fuse Brussels has been at the heart of Belgium’s electronic music scene. Now, the iconic nightclub celebrates its legacy with Fuse: 30 Years of Making Noise, a book that dives deep into its history, culture, and impact. Written by journalist and DJ Koen Galle, the book tells the story of one of the world’s longest-running nightclubs and its pivotal role in shaping the underground music scene.

Spanning 352 pages, the book brings together rare photographs, flyers, and interviews to showcase Fuse’s evolution since its opening in 1994. It highlights the DJs who have played pivotal roles, from Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier to Charlotte de Witte, and the club’s lasting impact on its audience. The book also delves into the behind-the-scenes efforts of staff and the energy brought by clubbers that have made Fuse a cultural institution.

Located on Rue Blaes in Brussels, Fuse has weathered changes in music trends, noise restrictions, and the challenges of running a nightclub while maintaining its reputation as a hub for underground electronic music. Its legacy is tied to its commitment to creating a space where sound, creativity, and community intersect.

The book, designed by Otis Verhoeve, features a distinctive Swiss binding and linen spine, giving it an artisanal finish. With only 2,000 copies printed, Fuse: 30 Years of Making Noise is as much an art object as it is an archive, appealing to electronic music enthusiasts and design lovers alike.

This publication serves as both a celebration of the club’s achievements and an invitation to explore the history of techno and house music in Belgium. Whether you’re a longtime fan or curious about Fuse’s cultural role, the book offers a thoughtful reflection on its enduring presence in the nightlife scene.
