Artek Reimagines Its Iconic Zebra Fabric in Warm Brown and White

The Finnish design house revisits one of its most recognisable textiles with a softer colour palette, complemented by a capsule collection of furniture and lighting.

Few patterns have remained as closely connected to Artek’s identity as Zebra. Introduced into the Finnish brand’s collection in 1935, the graphic jacquard fabric returns for autumn 2026 in a new brown and white colourway.

The textile was originally discovered by Aino Aalto during her travels through Europe in the 1930s. It appeared on Alvar Aalto’s furniture when Artek opened its first Helsinki store in 1936 and has remained part of the collection ever since.

While animal prints are once again making their presence felt across fashion and interior design, Zebra’s appeal lies in its ability to move beyond passing trends. Its expressive stripes are produced using a double jacquard weaving technique, giving the fabric a distinctive texture as well as the durability required for furniture and everyday accessories.

The new brown and white version softens the pattern without losing its playful character. Its warm, natural shades allow it to sit comfortably within a wider variety of interiors, from contemporary spaces to rooms filled with vintage pieces and natural materials.

Both the classic black and white Zebra and the new colourway will be available across Artek seating, including several of Alvar Aalto’s best known designs. The fabric will also appear on cushions, bags and pouches.

To accompany the launch, Artek has created a capsule collection built around similarly warm tones. Alvar Aalto’s Kanto magazine and firewood rack and the Table 90D are introduced in a walnut stained finish that complements the brown and white fabric.

Two of Aalto’s most recognisable pendant lamps also receive a new treatment. The A330S Golden Bell and A110 Hand Grenade are presented in a brick red shade drawn from the Artek archives. These limited edition lights will be available only while stocks last.

The new Zebra collection is available in Artek stores, selected retailers and the brand’s online shop.
