The Watch Angels x Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph Automatic IFR introduces a new chapter in aviation watchmaking with a fully mechanical function developed specifically for professional pilots. Created in partnership between Alpina and Watch Angels, this limited edition timepiece is designed to support one of the most demanding phases of Instrument Flight Rules flying: entering a holding pattern.
Unlike many aviation inspired watches, the Watch Angels x Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph Automatic IFR delivers practical operational assistance. Using its bidirectional bezel, pilots can enter their current heading and the inbound heading for the fix. The watch then instantly indicates the type of holding pattern entry required, whether direct, parallel or teardrop, while also displaying the correct headings and left or right hand entry information. A dedicated colour coding system ensures immediate readability in flight.
The watch combines three essential functions associated with aviation instruments. It features a unique holding pattern calculation system, an integrated chronograph with a 12 hour counter for monitoring longer flight phases, and a UTC hand for international aviation operations. These functions make the Watch Angels x Alpina Startimer Pilot Chronograph Automatic IFR one of the most complete pilot watches ever created.
Its innovative system is entirely mechanical and operates independently from the movement. The calculation and display mechanism is integrated into the watch externals, particularly the ceramic bezel and flange. Powering the watch is a movement offering a 62 hour power reserve.
The design follows the codes of Alpina’s new Startimer collection. The 43 millimetre case is water resistant to 10 ATM and features bevelled edges, satin finished surfaces and polished details. The blue sunburst dial includes luminous applied Arabic numerals, a small seconds display at 9 o’clock, local and UTC time indications, and a chronograph designed to assist with timing and navigation tasks.
