Horus Gallery’s Icons of Our Time Brings Contemporary Art to Antwerp

Horus Gallery’s Icons of Our Time Brings Contemporary Art to Antwerp

What defines an icon today? A celebrity, a digital image, a personal story or a powerful emotion? With Icons of Our Time, Horus Gallery in Antwerp explores that question through the work of six contemporary artists, each offering a distinctive perspective on the world we live in.

Running until 19 July 2026, the exhibition brings together hyperrealism, sculpture, pop art and abstract landscapes in a carefully curated journey that reflects today’s cultural landscape. Rather than looking back at historical heroes, the exhibition focuses on the symbols, identities and emotions shaping our present.

Christiane Vleugels-James Dean

One of the highlights is SHOWTIME, the latest monumental painting by Belgian hyperrealist Christiane Vleugels. Measuring 170 × 270 cm, the work makes its public debut in Antwerp and combines remarkable technical precision with a deeply emotional narrative.

The exhibition also marks the first collaboration between Horus Gallery and Antwerp born artist Jonas Leriche, now based in New York. His series A Beautiful Imperfection, enhanced with gold leaf and inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, reflects on authenticity in an era dominated by artificial intelligence, social media and digital perfection.

Alongside them, Stef Jacobs presents his imaginative Evohippus sculptures, while internationally recognised sculptor Jean Paul Kala showcases elegant aluminium works influenced by African forms and craftsmanship. Wouter Houten adds a playful pop art touch with polished bronze sculptures balancing humour, nostalgia and luxury, while Philippe Van Gele completes the exhibition with atmospheric abstract landscapes that invite quiet contemplation.

Founded by Niña Van den Bosch, Horus Gallery continues to establish itself as one of Antwerp’s most dynamic contemporary art spaces, making international calibre art accessible without compromising on quality. Whether you’re an experienced collector or simply looking for creative inspiration, Icons of Our Time offers a compelling reason to visit.
