Eclipsing Boundaries: La Patinoire Royale’s Trio of Captivating Exhibitions

La Patinoire Royale Bach takes center stage in the European contemporary art scene with a triumvirate of captivating monographic exhibitions.

Founded in 2015 by Valérie Bach, this unique contemporary art gallery in the heart of Brussels is gearing up for its tenth anniversary, accelerating its development and redefining its identity with a bold 2024 program. The gallery’s monumental space, reminiscent of a museum, unveils a curated selection of exhibitions by major and emerging contemporary artists, each commanding attention within the three distinct spaces: the Nef, the Verrière, and a groundbreaking Project Room hosting curated proposals and emerging artists.

Lita Albuquerque: Early Works in the Nef

The grandeur of La Patinoire’s Nef becomes the canvas for an extraordinary presentation by renowned American artist Lita Albuquerque. In a historic showcase titled “Early Works,” Albuquerque’s oeuvre takes center stage, with a selection of artworks being exhibited together for the first time in Europe. This collection is a testament to the artist’s evolution, offering viewers a rare opportunity to witness the genesis of her creative journey. Albuquerque’s pieces, both monumental and intimate, captivate the audience, inviting them to delve into the intricate layers of her artistic legacy.

Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil: The Unseen Reality in the Verrière

Stepping into the Verrière, visitors are immersed in the thought-provoking world of Renaud Auguste-Dormeuil, a distinguished artist who once graced the Villa Medicis and earned acclaim with the prestigious Prix HSBC for photography. His exhibition, aptly titled “La réalité n’a pas besoin de moi” (Reality Does Not Need Me), unfolds as an unprecedented exploration of the unseen facets of existence. Through his lens, Auguste-Dormeuil invites the audience to question the nature of reality and their place within it. This exhibition marks a unique blend of conceptual depth and visual poetry, showcasing the artist’s mastery in capturing the intangible.

Embracing innovation, La Patinoire introduces the Project Room, a space dedicated to curated proposals and emerging talents. Inaugurating this exciting venture is the Franco-Catalan artist and researcher, Marie-Luce Nadal, whose trajectory of recognition has been nurtured by the gallery. Nadal presents “Guerre Céleste” (Celestial Warfare), an immersive experience that challenges conventional boundaries. Her interdisciplinary approach converges in this groundbreaking exhibition, blurring the lines between art and research. The Project Room provides a dynamic platform for artists like Nadal to experiment and push the boundaries of contemporary expression.
