Olivier Valsecchi was born in 1979 in Paris and has been taking his own approach to Photography for more than ten years before entering a photographic school and completing his technique.
His work was published in many magazines such as Eyemazing, Azartphoto, Zoom, Photo and was exhibited in many places in Europe.
He recently was awarded with the prestigious Hasselblad Master Award 2012, fine art category.
Olivier graciously answered a few questions, the first question is from the artist Diego Agulló:
Are you practicing resistance?
I do try to resist to some kind of professional and social pressure, yes.
The rest are from GUSMEN:
Do you create the scenarios and stories of your photos beforehand or do you take things as they come?
I always, always write a brief story in my head before taking the photos. I would even say, I always, always have the photo in my head before taking it. Or else it is just random photos that I don’t use and throw away.
Do you prefer using film or working with digital cameras?
I used to work with films but it’s been a while since I haven’t worked this way.
What are you focusing on right now?
Anxiety. I feel very anxious and I must get rid of it.
What was the last thing that really surprised you?
Everything surprises me. The last thing that surprised me happened yesterday. I was drinking a coffee, thinking about the series I’m working on. A new idea, better idea came up. Strange how an idea can burst out of nowhere like thunder.
What do you want to achieve with photography?
I just want to keep doing what I do because I need photography in my life to survive.
What are your dreams for the future?
I think the next step would be publishing a book, I’d like to work on that. And I hope I will have some time to write some short-stories too.
What would you ask the next artist that we feature on GUSMEN (without knowing who it is)?
If your latest piece of work were a song, what would it be?
