Sundance Channel will premiere special coverage in celebration of the 65th Cannes Film Festival from 4-8 June, each evening at 20h30. Cannes 2012 will consist of five 30-minute specials offering highlights of the festival and marks the third consecutive year the network has produced original programming at the event.
Cannes 2012 will offer viewers exclusive interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at one of the film industry’s most prestigious annual events. The specials will feature interviews with celebrities and filmmakers from the red carpet to enable viewers to experience the excitement of Cannes right in their own homes. Each episode will also feature analysis of two films premiering at the annual gathering.
In addition, Sundance Channel will showcase a block of programming, Classically Cannes, on 9 June starting at 17.30. This will include films and documentaries from previous years along with encores of festival coverage from Cannes in 2012.
The 65th Cannes Film Festival will feature some of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year competing for the coveted Palme d’Or. The festival’s opening film, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom starring Bruce Willis, Edward Norton and Tilda Swinton, is one of the 21 titles competing this year. Other notable films include David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis starring Robert Pattinson, Walter Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road featuring Kristen Stewart and Sam Riley, Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt, and John Hillcoat’s Lawless starring Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.
Ken Loach, who is an 11-time nominee for the Palme d’Or, will screen the comedy The Angels’ Share. He previously won the prize for The Wind That Shakes the Barley in 2006. The Paperboy, directed by Lee Daniels (Precious) and starring Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, will also be screened at the festival. Jacques Audiard’s De rouille et d’os (Rust and Bone) will be showcased in Cannes and stars Oscar winner Marion Cotillard and the Belgian rookie Matthias Schoenaerts. Isabelle Huppert stars in the new Michael Haneke film Amour (Love), which will also be featured at the festival.
This year’s jury will include British actor Ewan McGregor, French actor Emmanuelle Devos and Oscar-winning US writer-director Alexander Payne, among others. The Cannes Film Festival will open on 16 May. Sundance Channel’s coverage is produced in partnership with 3DD Entertainment.
