Celebrating 100 Years of The House of Suntory: A Century of Japanese Whisky Excellence

2023 marks the centennial celebration of The House of Suntory, a name synonymous with the pinnacle of Japanese whisky. Beginning its journey in 1923 with the establishment of the Yamazaki Distillery, Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery, The House of Suntory has truly become an emblem of Japan’s distillation mastery.

To honor this significant milestone, The House of Suntory is set to launch several limited editions this fall. Notably, three of these editions will be available in Belgium, reflecting their meticulous blending techniques and distinct Japanese craftsmanship.

Limited Editions:

1. Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt Anniversary EditionCelebrating not just the centennial of The House of Suntory but also its own 50th anniversary, the Hakushu Distillery is introducing this limited edition. Crafted from carefully selected malt whiskies aged for at least 18 years, it offers hints of sage, ripe green apple, and ripe pineapple on the nose, evolving into a complex smoky flavor with touches of grapefruit and acacia honey. It’s a masterclass in how peated whisky can be simultaneously robust and elegant.

2. Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara Anniversary Edition
   Paying homage to its rich history, The House of Suntory is releasing a limited edition of the iconic 18-year-old single malt, exclusively aged in Mizunara oak casks. This whisky unveils rich aromas of black cherries and ripe peaches, accented by hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. It finishes with lasting notes of clove, sandalwood, and dried coconut.

1. Hibiki Japanese Harmony Anniversary Edition
   Though younger compared to its peers, founded in 1989, Hibiki is considered one of the most prestigious whiskies globally. This amber-colored blend exudes aromas of roses, lychees, rosemary, mature wood, and sandalwood. It’s a dance of flavors on the palate, from sweet honey to candied orange zest and white chocolate, ending with a gentle Mizunara touch.
